Coneheads BELDAR Playmates 1993

Originating on the small screen in the popular Saturday Night Live sketch in the 80's, Dan Aykroyd's sci-fi comedy about an alien family trying to fit into to normal society became a huge success and was immensely popular with audiences and so made it's big screen debut in 1993 but to a little less fanfare, Critics of the movie simply felt that the film wasn't as irreverent and sharp as the sketches but Coneheads the movie has since become something of a cult favourite and the lovable aliens and their distinctively shaped craniums have become pop culture icons.


To commemorate the movie playmates produced a basic series of action figures based on the main characters from the film with various movie inspired accessories and here we be looking in detail at earth Beldar the parental unit who enjoys consuming mass quantities in his suburban uniform and who comes with a great array of various "plasticized earth accessories":





 

 



Beldar features a really good Dan Aykroyd  likeness and is sculpted in similar style and size to Playmates own Star Trek line  he comes with various  accessories ensuring Beldar is ready for his favourite earth pass time! that's right mass consumption! (and Golf)



The figure features standard articulation but features some really good sculpting with plenty of  attention to detail

perhaps best known for their Star Trek and Teenage mutant ninja Turtles toy lines, Playmates Coneheads may not be quite as high profile and with only a hand full of figures originally available these aren't hugely collectable however the Movie itself has a strong and loyal cult following and coupled with the fact that Coneheads related merchandise is pretty minimal generally and these figures are of such exceptional quality it isn't hard to understand why they make such  great collectors items if only to give your Star Trek figures some odd new aliens to play with!
